Amazonite is a green microcline feldspar that is exceptionally popular as a
gemstone. It was named for the Amazon River which flows near some of the
first commercial deposits of amazonite. Other amazonite localities include
the Ural Mountains of Russia and the Pike's Peak area of Colorado.
Amazonite is a favorite stone of jewelers, rockhounds and the general
public. It is often used to make necklaces, beads, earrings, bracelets,
pendants, and cabochons. The amazonite rough used to produce the
tumble-polished stones in the photograph above is a rich green material
mined in Russia.
Warning: Polished stones can be a choking hazard for small children. |
